Major League Soccer action returns on Wednesday, and this week we will have a series of interesting matches.
The Los Angeles Galaxy visit Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park in a game that will reunite SKC striker Dejan Joveljic with his former team, with which he won the 2024 championship.

This is a good opportunity for the LA Galaxy to climb in the Western Conference standings and establish themselves in a much more comfortable spot with the playoffs in mind.
While Greg Vanney’s men are going through a good run, Raphael Wicky’s team is in the exact opposite situation.
The Galaxy’s optimism comes from two wins and a draw in their last three games. In their last match, they beat Atlanta United 2-1 with a brace from Gabriel Pec (74th, 79th). The California team currently sits in ninth place in the Western Conference.
Sporting KC, on the other hand, has lost two and drawn one in its last three outings. The two losses were particularly demoralizing: by scores of 0-5 and 0-6 against the Chicago Fire and the Portland Timbers, respectively.
Going further back, the Missouri team lost 3-0 to Vancouver Whitecaps on April 17 and 3-0 to Colorado Springs Switchbacks on April 14 in the U.S. Open Cup round of 32. They are in last place in their conference with only 5 points after 11 games. It’s a terrible situation.
Regardless of the good run the Galaxy is going through, truth be told, it has been an up-and-down season. Head coach Vanney is still working to find the best version of his team without Riqui Puig. The Spanish midfielder’s recovery from an ACL tear back in November had a setback which required additional surgery. He was placed on the season-ending injury list and will not return until 2027.
Last season was an absolute disaster. In this campaign, the improvement is evident, but that does not mean they are playing attractive soccer. Every win has cost them.
