Tigres UANL visit Minnesota United this Friday, Aug. 7 for Matchday 2 of the 2026 Leagues Cup. Both clubs are going through an inconsistent spell, and neither is coming off results that left positive feelings in their respective domestic competitions or in Leagues Cup.

The other west coast fixture sees FC Juárez travel north to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Gerardo Pizarro’s side are coming off a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake in the opening matchday of the Leagues Cup, claiming the victory with a 6-5 win in the penalty shootout.

Juan Brunetta scored in the sixth minute for the Liga MX club in regulation, while Pablo Ruiz found the net in the 16th minute for the MLS side.

Before that, in Matchday 3 of Liga MX, Tigres lost 3-2 to Queretaro after drawing 2-2 against Atletico San Luis in Matchday 2 and losing 3-1 to Club Tijuana in the opening match of the Apertura 2026 season.

Meanwhile, Cameron Knowles’ side are coming off a 2-1 loss to FC Juárez in their opening match of the Leagues Cup.

Tomas Chancalay scored the only goal for the MLS side in the 34th minute, while Guilherme Castillo (24th minute) and Oscar Estupinan (38th minute) secured the victory for the Liga MX club.

Before that, Minnesota were coming off a 1-1 draw against San Diego FC on Aug. 1 and a 0-0 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 25.

They currently sit 10th in the MLS Western Conference with 24 points from 18 matches played.

Although neither team arrives in its best form, based on experience and squad quality, the balance tilts slightly in favor of the Liga MX side.

Jesper Sorensen’s Vancouver Whitecaps are coming off a surprising 1-0 loss to newly promoted Liga MX club Atlante, managed by legendary Mexican coach Miguel Herrera.

Sorensen opted to field a heavily rotated lineup, leaving out key players such as Tristan Blackmon, Thomas Muller, Emmanuel Sabbi and Brian White, who all came on in the second half but still did not have enough time to make a difference.

Before that, Vancouver drew 1-1 with LAFC on Aug. 1 and 0-0 with Minnesota United on July 25.

Even so, the Whitecaps currently sit atop the MLS Western Conference with 34 points from 17 matches played. It is worth noting that LAFC, their closest challenger, have the same number of points but have played 19 matches and sit in second place.

Meanwhile, Juárez arrive in high spirits because, as mentioned earlier, they are coming off a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United on Tuesday.

That said, before that result, they had suffered three consecutive defeats, losing 5-1 to Pumas on July 31 in Matchday 3 of Liga MX, 1-0 to Chivas in Matchday 2, and 1-0 to Puebla in the opening match of the Apertura 2026 season.

Although Juárez are coming off a win and Vancouver are coming off a loss, the expectation is that the Canadian side will return to winning ways in this match after learning from their mistakes in the defeat to Atlante.
