This article was written after recording The Designated Pundits‘ the New England Revolution preview for the 2026 MLS Season with special guest Greg Johnston from “Revolution Recap.” You can find that video on Spotify below.
2025 Recap
The Revs’s 2025 season is best summarized as a failure on all fronts. They finished 11th in the east and were particularly poor at home. Both offense and defense performed below the Eastern Conference averages, and they finished with a -7 goal differential, missing the playoffs for the 2nd straight year.

Carles Gil led scoring for the Revolution with 19 total contributions. Leo Campana had a disappointing 7 goals, while Thomas Chancalay never quite got healthy and had only 4 goals and 2 assists.
In the end, New England parted ways with head coach Caleb Porter and brought in Marko Mitrović, former USMNT youth coach.

Transactions
The Revolution had some roster changes this offseason, but I think they are relying on improvement via coach and system.
Outgoing players include Thomas Chancalay, who never broke through as the star that the Revs thought he could become. They also let expire the loan of Ignatius Ganago. Notable outgoing players include Brandon Bye, who was made expendable by some talented young fullbacks.

The Revolution brought in midfielder Brooklyn Raines (pictured right) from the Houston Dynamo to cement their midfield.
They also brought in winger and projected starter Griffin Yow, depth CB-RB Ethan Kohler, and Cristiano Oliviera to support Carles Gil at the #10.
Depth Chart
With the current roster, you will see one quality winger on each side with Luca Langoni and Griffin Yow. The Revolution also have two quality strikers in Dor Turgeman and Leonardo Campana. We made this depth chart as a 4-3-3, but if there are any roster moves, such as sending out Luca Langoni, this could easily switch to a 4-4-2, or more specifically a 4-1-2-1-2. Luca Langoni has the quality that demands he play in his natural position. Without him, the 4-3-3 won’t looks as effective.

There are a lot of options in midfield, but we know Carles Gil (pictured below) will play the #10. He is one of the best distributors in the league, and even at an advanced age, led the team in minutes last year.
We think the team starts with dual 8s, which Alhassan Yusuf and Brooklyn Raines are projected starters. If they play with a true #6, Matt Polster is probably still first choice as DM.
The defense is mostly set, but the CB position is weak. The fullbacks Peyton Miller and Ilay Feingold are true quality, enough for me to call them the strength of the team, but they also might be more suited for wingback play.
Questions
- Which player outside out projected starting 11 has the best chance to win a starting job?
- Ethan Kohler. He is versatile at CB and RB, and can easily find time if the formation is other that what we projected (such as a 3 man backline).
- What are realistic expectations for 2026?
- The team could sneak into the playoffs. An expectation outside of the standings would be to form an identify and style of play.
- What is a storyline to follow throughout the season?
- Will Peyton Miller be sold or remain on the team? How does his development work out?
- What styles will the Revs match up well against?
- They have good speed from wings and wingbacks. Narrow teams or teams with slowed fullbacks could get beaten.
- What styles will the Revs match up poorly against?
- Teams that are set in their ways, have a true game plan that they can control. Also, teams that have significantly better talent.
- What player improves the most in 2026?
- Leo Campana- IF he starts he should reach double digit goals.
- What player regresses in 2026?
- Matt Polster. He has younger players gunning for his spot.
