Here’s How They Shape Up

Top Ten (Source: ESPN)

It’s an internal battle royale among the top seven, as eighth-place Brentford are out of contention on 55 points. Obviously, Liverpool have clinched the title. Outside of this top ten sides, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United (16th & 17th respectively) will be fighting for the Europa League crown next Wednesday (and a CL ticket).

Matchweek 37 Fixtures

  • Aston Villa vs. Tottenham Hotspur
    • Friday, May 16 2:30pm ET
    • Broadcast on USA Network
    • It’s a must win for Villa, and questions swirl around a Spurs team that is obviously focused on next week. This match was moved ahead to give Spurs recovery time before the Europa League final, which caused an outcry from the Villa camp.
  • Chelsea vs. Manchester United
    • Friday, May 16 3:15pm ET
    • Streaming on Peacock
    • Ditto the above… this match was a) also moved ahead; b) is a must-win for the home side and c) features a visitor who has to be looking elsewhere.
  • West Ham United vs. Nottingham Forest
    • Sunday, May 18 9:15am ET
    • Broadcast on USA Network & Universo (en español)
    • Forest’s form has been slipping. They need a solid three points and should be able to take them from a West Ham team whose season has been a disappointment.
  • Arsenal vs. Newcastle United
    • Sunday, May 18 11:30am ET
    • Broadcast on USA Network & Telemundo (en español)
    • The soccer scheduling gods have given us a GEM of a fixture here. Arsenal have been dealt some hard blows (Champions League elimination, no PL title, etc.) but all they need is a win to lock in that CL berth. Newcastle already lifted the Carabao Cup, but a win here moves them into second and virtual guarantee to play abroad with the big boys.
  • Manchester City vs. Bournemouth
    • Tuesday, May 20 3:00pm ET
    • Broadcast on USA Network
    • There is the likelihood City wins the FA Cup final and blows this game off. But I don’t think Pep is wired that way, and I’m sure his petrogarch overlords don’t want to see his side capitulating intentionally.
