PSG head to the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday looking to keep their perfect Champions League record intact, while Villarreal need a response after a difficult start to their European campaign and a frustrating defeat in LaLiga.

Luis Enrique’s side have wasted little time reminding Europe why they are the reigning champions. PSG have won all three of their league-phase matches, scoring 14 goals against Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City and Barcelona. They have also won nine consecutive games across all competitions, making them one of the most dangerous teams on the continent right now.

Villarreal, meanwhile, have plenty of questions to answer.

PSG Are Rolling, Even Without Their Biggest Names

PSG arrive in Spain full of confidence after putting five past Le Havre in Ligue 1. Achraf Hakimi stole the headlines with a hat-trick and two assists, an extraordinary performance from a player who usually makes his biggest impact from right-back.

The Parisians have found ways to hurt opponents from different areas of the pitch, and their attacking numbers speak for themselves. However, they will have to make adjustments for this trip.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury against Barcelona, while Ousmane Dembélé is also unavailable with a thigh problem. Marquinhos is another major absentee, leaving Luis Enrique with decisions to make at both ends of the pitch.

The good news for PSG is that they have enough depth to cope with those setbacks. Désiré Doué, Maghnes Akliouche and Ferran Torres are among the options available to lead the attack, while Vitinha, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz are expected to return to the starting lineup after being rested against Le Havre.

PSG have scored at least twice in each of their first three Champions League matches. If they maintain that level of production, Villarreal could be in for a long night.

Villarreal Struggle with Consistency

Villarreal have shown they can compete in Europe, but consistency has been a problem.

The Yellow Submarine opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund before beating Napoli 3-1 at home. Their most recent European outing ended in a 4-3 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, despite taking a two-goal lead inside the opening half-hour.

That performance showed Villarreal can trouble quality opposition, but it also exposed their defensive vulnerabilities. Giving PSG the same opportunities could prove costly.

Their domestic form offers little reassurance. Villarreal suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Espanyol last Friday and have now gone two consecutive home league matches without scoring. They sit eighth in LaLiga with 12 points from 11 games, a position that hardly reflects the ambitions of a club that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2022.

Georges Mikautadze has been one of their most productive attacking players, with five goals across all competitions, including two in Europe. Ayoze Pérez has also contributed creatively in the Champions League, while Alberto Moleiro has been a key provider in LaLiga.

But Villarreal will need more than individual quality to get a result against the European champions. They must be more disciplined defensively while taking advantage of the chances that come their way.

Villarreal vs PSG: Prediction

This will be the first official meeting between Villarreal and PSG, adding another layer of intrigue to a matchup between two teams heading in very different directions.

Villarreal have enough attacking talent to make the contest uncomfortable, particularly at home, and their European matches have consistently produced goals. They have scored in all three of their league-phase fixtures, while both teams have found the net in every PSG Champions League game this season.

Still, the visitors arrive with the stronger form, greater attacking momentum and the confidence of a side that knows how to win on the biggest stage.

Villarreal cannot afford to give PSG space or allow the game to become an open exchange of attacks. That is precisely the kind of contest the French champions have shown they can dominate.

The Yellow Submarine may find the net, but stopping PSG from doing the same could be the bigger challenge.

Hooligan Prediction: Villarreal 1-3 PSG.
